Chris Nucerino, CEO

Chris has worked for the Y for 24 years.  He holds his Masters from Springfield College in Non Profit Organizational Management.  His time in the Y has been at two YMCA’s in Western Pennsylvania (Butler PA and Sewickley PA), Syracuse for 11 years as the Branch Executive Director, where he opened the Fayetteville and Manlius Y’s and is now the CEO of the Auburn YMCA – WEIU. His passion for strengthening community through his work with volunteers and staff of the Y has continued over his career.  He believes in the mission and values of the YMCA and believes in helping people reach their goals, build friendships and learning at the Y. Chris has three boys – Anthony, Jack and JD ages 19, 14 and 12 with his partner Casey who is a school social worker in the Auburn Enlarged School District for the past 11 years.

Amy Wallner, PR & Fund Development Director

Amy is a graduate of SUNY Cortland and a native of Auburn.  "I started my Y career as the Child Care Director 18 years ago. I began at the Y by changing lives of our youth. Now I share how the Y impacts lives which include my own family. My son is now an official “Y kid” who uses every program possible. My husband and I are very lucky to have the Y that we do in our community, not only for ourselves but for our son. I am continually amazed by the impact the Y makes in our community through our programs and services."

Denise Tabone, CFO

Denise has over 25 years of non-profit accounting and finance experience. She started working for the YMCA in 1998 when her youngest son was three years old.  Both of her sons grew up in the Y and participated in preschool, camp and sports programs.  Denise is married to Tony Tabone who you will find in the weight room early in the morning.  “The reason I love my job is the people that I see every day, the members and the staff.  Working for a non-profit gives me a sense of giving back to the community and seeing the successes of our members and young children who grow up in the Y is truly satisfying.”

Bill Brown Facility Director- Auburn YMCA-WEIU and Camp Y-Owasco

"I started coming to the Auburn Y in 1962 and other than the college years I have been here most every year since. I have served on the camp committee for about 32 years and the building committee about 25 years. I also served on the board of directors for almost 14 years. At camp Y-Owasco I was able to build cabins, bridges, decks, bath houses and other structures to upgrade and improve the camp with the help of generous foundations. A few years back I sat on the committee to save the old Boy Scout Camp to make it a part of our existing property where we now run day camp every summer.

My certifications include: HVAC, OSHA, CPR, Blood Borne Pathogens, First aid, AED, Oxygen and a Certified Lifeguard.  I am also a Certified Pool Operator and Level II Swim Official.

My favorite part of the job is improving what already exists and the interaction with the greatest staff and members imaginable."

Laura Clary, Health & Wellness Director

Laura has 20+ years experience within the Auburn YMCA. She first began as an instructor in a Stretch and Tone class but quickly expanded into specialty areas such as Pregnancy Fitness, Zumba, Active Older Adults, Group Exercise Instructor Trainer and Chronic Disease Management. It was through these experiences that made her appreciate all that the Y has to offer. Following the philosophy of “we have a gym, but we are not JUST a gym”, Laura is excited to help community members succeed in what wellness means to them. She is currently working on partnerships within local agencies to continually expand what we can offer.  She currently holds certifications in Personal Training thru NETA, Y- ACE Group Exercise, Enhance Fitness certified trainer, Active Older Adult Program Director, and Chronic Disease Self Management Team leader.

Betsy DeGroff , Preschool Director

"My journey at the Y began as a child when I participated in the KinderKamp program. I also enjoyed gymnastics classes as well as swimming lessons.  Upon high school graduation I was looking for a summer job and found an opportunity to work as a counselor at Camp Y-Owasco.  I then continued my education at the University of Central Florida where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.  I spent five years teaching Kindergarten in the Clyde-Savannah School District before I started teaching preschool classes at the Auburn Y in September 2000.  A few years later I then became the Preschool Director.  My husband Robert and I have been married for 22 years and we have two children Gannon and Emma.  My position at the Y allows me to change lives, one little person at a time!"

Jeff Hanno, Youth Sports Director

Jeff  is entering his fifteenth year at the Auburn YMCA as Sports Director.  Jeff is passionate about the youth in the community and bringing out the best in them.  Jeff has 40 years of experience coaching and is currently a high school basketball and soccer coach.  He considers it a privilege to be a mentor and trainer for several of the area’s top athletes who have gone on to play at the college level.

Jeff’s coaching experience includes junior college level basketball, tennis, pro-racquetball and sports conditioning.  Jeff turned professional in the sport of racquetball right after college.  Jeff has won the US Open, New York State Championship, Long Island Open and Regional Championships.  He has also held ranking of the top 15 racquetball players in the world in the CPRT (Classic Pro Racquetball Tour).

Erin Johnson, Aquatic Director

Erin Johnson has come full circle within the Aquatic Department at the Auburn YMCA.  As a child she was a member here and a participant of the Stingrays Swim Team, making this facility home away from home!  She is a graduate of Truman State University (Missouri) where she obtained a degree in Exercise Science as well as a Masters in Kinesiology from Michigan State University.  A native of Aurora, NY Erin is currently the Aquatic Director here and enjoying it!  Before moving back to the central New York region, she and her husband lived downstate where she was a Certified Athletic Trainer.  Erin previously worked at Victory Sports Medicine and Orthopedics.  After the birth of her twins, Erin was a stay at home mother until the YMCA came back into her life.  She is a certified Swim Lesson instructor, lifeguard and Certified Athletic Trainer.

Kyrstal Wadsworth, Human Resources Director

After years of living in states with less than palatable pizza, Krystal is thrilled to be back in central New York and joining the YMCA family . A graduate of Cato-Meridian Central School, she holds a BFA in Theater Arts from Hofstra University and is currently pursuing an MBA in Business Administration and Human Resource Management from ENEB-Barcelona.  When not working, she can be found on local stages as a performer and director, helping to educate the next generation of theater makers. Krystal and her husband CJ live on Onondaga Hill with their cats, Fred and Muno.
